Most exciting client experience:
"You Never Know"
When I first started selling printing, I did not have any accounts handed
over to me, so I just got in the yellow pages and started calling prospects. It
was a 50-50 chance that anybody would see you, especially if they didn't know
you. Anyway, I got an appointment with this company that purchased quite a lot of
printing and they hesitantly said they would see me. Upon arriving to my
appointment, they gave me about 2 minutes and said they were not interested in
any new vendors at this time and I did not need to bother following up.
Well, me being new to sales, but had a pretty deep knowledge of the printing industry, I did not give up that easy. I made several more attempts in the next several weeks with getting nowhere....mostly rude comments and even a few hang-ups. Then it happened. One Friday late afternoon...(probably could not get a hold of anyone else) I got a page....yes I said page....dated again....To call this prospective customer, and they wanted to see me Monday morning.
Well, I got my first try with them, a small 4 page 8.5 x 11 brochure...quantity 2,500...I thought I had hit the jackpot...and I did. After several more opportunities our relationship grew and they became my biggest customer. They even used our company in a photo shoot and printed our guys and press on the inside of the front cover of their catalog.
